The UN General Assembly on May 10 voted for a resolution asking the Security Council to make Palestine a full member. The resolution was passed by a resounding majority of 143 votes in favour including India while 25 countries abstained. Expressing their anguish, US, Israel have voted against the resolution supporting full membership of Palestine. Meanwhile, Israeli Ambassador Gilad Erdan lodged a strong protest against the UN’s new move. Israeli Envoy took a small shredding machine at the General Assembly podium and shredded pages of the UN Charter. He also alleged that the resolution opens up the UN for “modern-day Nazis” referring to Hamas. However, the US has already warned that it will likely veto such a request in the Security Council.
