In a heart-wrenching update on the Israeli hostages held captive by Hamas, a recent report discloses that 32 out of over 130 hostages still in the grip of the terror group are no longer alive. This shocking revelation intensifies the somber reality on the eve of the fourth month of the intense war between Israel and the Gaza terror group. Emotions are running high as the plight of these hostages paints a poignant picture of the unbearable ordeal they endure. Citing a confidential assessment conducted by Israeli intelligence officials, The New York Times brought to light this distressing report amid ongoing efforts by negotiating parties to secure the release of the remaining hostages. Until now, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) had only confirmed the deaths of 29 captives still in Gaza. Reports now suggest that, in addition to the 32 confirmed deaths, the IDF is assessing that at least 20 more hostages may have also met a tragic fate. Officials have informed the families of the deceased, adding another layer of sorrow to this already devastating situation. The backdrop of this grim reality traces back to the ruthless October 7 attack by thousands of Hamas terrorists, claiming 1,200 lives across more than 20 communities in southern Israel. Initially, 253 hostages were seized, and it is now believed that 132 remain in captivity after a weeklong truce in late November led to the release of 105 people. Prior to the truce, four hostages were released, and one was rescued by troops. The military has also recovered the bodies of eight hostages, while three others were tragically and mistakenly killed in the line of duty. #benjaminnetanyahu #latestnews #antonyblinken #middleeast #hamas #hostagesituation #ceasefire #deals #ussecretary Subscribe to The Times of India's YouTube channel: For daily news & updates and exclusive stories, follow the Times of India Facebook: Instagram: Download the app: Follow the TOI WhatsApp channel: Follow TOI for well-researched and in-depth news and analysis Facebook: Twitter: Instagram:
