Ep 7. Haegeum | English Gugak Series The Korean Cultural Center Los Angeles (Wijin Park, Director) and Korean traditional music (Gugak) artist, Seo-Yoon Jang present a special online project, English Gugak Series 'Korean Traditional Music 101: Sound of Korea' Ep 7. Haegeum on Wednesday, December 8, 2021 on the KCCLA YouTube channel. The seventh episode is 'Haegeum' which is a vertical fiddle that has two strings. A wooden bow strung with horsehair is passed between two strings to create the sound. Gugak instruments are made up of 8 materials which are metal, stone, silk, bamboo, gourd, soil, leather and wood. Haegeum is the only Gugak instrument that contains all of them. Interesting fact is Haegeum is considered a wind instrument because of its ability to create long notes.
