SPREAD or STRETCH YOURSELF TOO THIN(LY)/TO BE BOMBARDED WITH QUESTIONS or REQUESTS Have you ever been so stressed out and overworked that you thought there was just no way that you could deal with stress? When we can’t handle the heat of constant pressure and feel like it sucks the joy out of our work, we are forced to take a step back to preserve our own piece of mind, health and wellbeing. Let’s look at a couple of phrases we can use to talk about it. The first one is to spread or stretch yourself too thin and the second one is to be bombarded with something, such as questions or requests. If you spread or stretch yourself too thin, you try to do too many things at the same time, so that you cannot give enough time or attention to any of them. You bite off more than you can chew, so to speak. If you are bombarded with questions or requests, it means you are asked too many questions, one right after the other, often without time to answer each one of them. Watch the clips to get a better feel of the expressions. Being able to support teachers with technology made sense and was a breath of fresh air. I felt like I could actually do something to help when I felt hopeless otherwise, and that was an incredible feeling, but it also forced me to stretch myself so thin that I had no choice but to eventually break. I was navigating hybrid teaching where I had to teach half of my class in person and half of my class online at the same time. And I was just as confused and overwhelmed as every other teacher. But on top of that when I’d leave the classroom each day I was bombarded with requests from teachers and would spend several more hours trying to help support them. Pocketful of Primary It really felt like, at the time, I was showing up because I had to, I was forcing myself to, not because I wanted to. And then on the other hand, I had this incredible business I was building. I’ve talked about Hey Lady! before. And in Hey Lady I have an incredible team of coaches, of community managers, of developers, and they all need me to show up. I had spread myself too thinly across all of my responsibilities that I just felt like I wasn’t doing any of them. mmmEnglish
