NOTE: Kosovo is the subject of a territorial dispute between Kosovo and Serbia. Kosovo unilaterally declared independence in 2008 while Serbia continues to claim it as part of its own sovereign territory. The flag map in the thumbnail includes Serbia and its claim to Kosovo. Almost half of all UN member states recognize Kosovo, while the others recognize it as part of Serbia. Bože pravde (Боже правде, in English “God of Justice“), is the national anthem of Serbia. It is defined by Article 7 of the Constitution of Serbia. It was the state anthem of the Kingdom of Serbia until 1919 when it became Yugoslavia. On November 6, 2008, the anthem was constitutionally adopted again after Serbia and Montenegro had split up. The original song was written in 1872 with music by Davorin Jenko and lyrics by Jovan Đorđević, when Serbia was a principality. It was then a piece for the theater play Marko kazuje na kome je carstvo (Marko names the Emperor), and its immense popularity with audiences prompted its adoption as the Serbian national anthem. The full Serbian national anthem as officially defined consists of eight stanzas, but usually only the first two are performed on public occasions for reasons of brevity. ℹ️ For any copyright-related issues (except Content ID - those are automatic), please reach out to this channel first before filing a claim to YouTube.
