So I've said a couple of times already that I have kind of a love/hate relationship with Astarion, but once I actually started making this video I realized I'm mostly okay with him when he's… well… not good? Tbh I don't think there is a good route for Astarion or even just a good Astarion. He's evil and remains pretty egocentric and malicious, ascended or not. Throughout the game, he doesn't give a f about anyone but himself (except for literally a couple of scenes), he's consistently okay with not helping slaves they meet along the way, killing Yurgir to get what he wants, sacrificing his fellow spawn, manipulating Tav and planning world domination on numerous occasions. Like, sure, by default he will make the good choice and not become a vampire lord / ascendant in act 3, but I feel like it's a bit OOC for him. Even in his good route, if you decide to break up with him in the endgame, he immediately starts screaming at you and his line about him understanding should you decide to part ways prior falls flat. He doesn't really change. Sure, he MIGHT want to try and do some good, but he doesn't become the good person. Like maybe down the road if he's still a spawn and helps other spawn he will be better, but as of endgame he's mostly better towards Tav and that's it. And idk. That just works for me to let anti-heroes be anti-heroes. So once I realized that, the whole thing clicked for me and this video happened. I feel like this song works really well for the darkest sides of Astarion, his paranoia about Cazador (and his distrust of everyone else) and the fact that he often acts quite insane. But ultimately for how in the end, Astarion is his own worst enemy.
