Tons of trash float down a river at least twice a year, ending up near the eastern Bosnian town of Visegrad. Garbage from unauthorized waste dumps is carried year-round by the Drina River and its tributaries in Bosnia, Serbia and Montenegro toward Visegrad, and on to the Danube River, into which the Drina eventually flows. A representative of the local Tourism Board comments on the environmental problem, saying ‘it is long term and solving it will be neither easy nor cheap,’ but that residents of Visegrad are trying their best to work on it.
