Fasting activates many of the body's mechanisms that repair damaged DNA and other cellular components. It also promotes the production of ketones, especially beta-hydroxybutyrate, an anti-aging molecule that demonstrates the capacity to delay the onset of aging-related diseases and improve mitochondrial health. There are several types of fasting, including alternate-day fasting, time-restricted eating, and prolonged fasting. Each elicits metabolic changes that can improve health and promote longevity. Time-restricted eating, in particular, has the potential to realign the body's circadian rhythms.
