Gov. Roy Cooper announced in a release that rescue and recovery operations are continuing to take place in Western North Carolina in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene. “The catastrophic devastation to Western North Carolina is like nothing we have ever seen. Emergency responders are working around the clock coordinating rescues and getting resources to help people with their immediate needs as they work to save lives,“ Gov. Cooper said via the release. Gov. Cooper said that as of 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 28, a confirmed 10 North Carolina residents have lost their lives due to Hurricane Helene.
