As a composer and conductor, he has worked with great violin virtuosi. The mastery of Anne-Sophie Mutter, with whom he performed Prokofiev’s Violin Concerto No. 1 in 1988 in Lucerne, inspired him to write his Violin Concerto No. 2 (1992–95). In the meantime, the composer became fascinated by the aesthetic idea of claritas, which to some extent influenced the final shape of the new concerto.
