Kim Jong-un will stop sending his dirty balloons south. The North Korean leader had escalated the ‘balloon wars’ in retaliation for South Korea sending balloons full of propaganda leaflets and K-pop USB sticks northwards, and was continuing to send balloons full of manure and garbage south. This second offensive saw 600 more balloons carrying ‘sincere gifts’ of waste paper, scrap clothing, expired batteries and manure fly south of the border, bringing the total to 3,500 balloons, or 15 tons of waste. South Korea has dispatched crack teams of dirty balloon disposal experts to cordon off the affected areas, however, the North believe they have succeeded in their goal of letting the South ‘experience how much effort is required’ to remove the propaganda drops. North Korean Defense Minister Kim Kang Il has said they will ‘temporarily halt dropping trash over the border,’ however, they will resume the dirty balloons if South Korea shows any sign of violating the ceasefire (ceaseballoon?).
