Нетленный лама Итигэлов — загадка для учёных. Его саркофаг закопали на глубину полтора метра в 1927 году. В день погребения, находясь в состоянии медитации, в присутствии своих учеников Итигэлов ушёл в нирвану, дав им последнее наставление: «Вы навестите и посмотрите моё тело через 75 лет…» Когда в 2002 году саркофаг извлекли из земли, на теле ламы не обнаружили следов разложения.
