Spirogyra algae - that’s what it’s called! And it’s perhaps one of the most common algaes to exist. It often grows in still bodies of water - great for producing lots of oxygen, but can sometimes suffocate other lifeforms. As oxygen bubbles are produced, the algae will float to the surface of the body of water, and makes it difficult for other animals and bugs to sometimes reach the surface. The slime is actually a result of the algaes production of pectin - this coats the outside of the thread-like spirogyra and gives it that silky/slippery feel... Gross... but cool!
