Najavo and Laguna Pueblo filmmaker Aaron Carr kindly allowed me to use these images from his first documentary “Laguna Woman“ in which his grand-mother told her story over landscapes of the reservation, the sheepcamp where she lived and tended the sheep in the summer, the village, the mesas and the I40 which used to be known as Route 66... This place is dear to my heart too as I spent a lot of time there myself, and saw my little girl take her first steps as unsteady as the ruins, among the dry bushes and desert flowers... I feel very lucky that Aaron let me use his tribute to his grand-mother to illustrate mine... Enjoy the travel!
