Rishi Sunak has dismissed the significance of a new YouGov survey that suggested the Conservatives could be heading for a 1997-style wipeout, as he argued the only poll that matters “is the one when the general election comes”. The survey of 14,000 people forecasted that the Conservatives could retain just 169 seats, while Labour could sweep to power with 385, giving Sir Keir Starmer a 120-seat majority.
