Global leaders, including China’s Xi Jinping and India’s Narendra Modi, have gathered in Kazan, Russia, for a BRICS summit aimed at challenging the Western liberal order. Russian President Vladimir Putin views the event as an opportunity to show the failure of efforts to isolate Russia following its 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Originally comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, BRICS has expanded to include Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia, with additional countries expressing interest in joining.
