Explaining the Junk Rig, in particular as it applies to Terrapin, a self-built 39 foot ketch. It is the home of the Lyons family and has been sailed extensively by them. This video is an extract from a video on their excellent YouTube channel and more accounts of the building of Terrapin and its sailing adventures can be found at @fourlyons This video explains the hinged battens which allow the sails of Terrapin to take a more aerodynamic shape, as well as the sheeting arrangements and the reefing capacity of the boat. It gives an honest account of the windward sailing and tacking performance of the vessel, but one is left mostly with the impression of a beautiful sailing home. see also
