India and Russia concluded a ₹5,100-crore deal for joint production of AK-203 assault rifles. Officials said more than 5 lakh AK-203 rifles will be produced at a facility in UP’s Amethi. The deal was finalised at a bilateral meet between defence ministers Rajnath Singh, Sergey Shoigu. The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) approved the project last week. Govt has said rifles will enhance operational effectiveness of Indian Army in anti-terror operations. The Centre approved a plan to produce these rifles at Korwa & the production is expected to start soon. AK-203 rifles will be manufactured under a joint venture called Indo-Russian Rifles Private Limited. The project is a joint venture with the Russian government under the ’Make in India’ initiative of the Modi government. Watch the full video for more.
