I've wanted to do this for a long time, so finally there it is. Obviously in this case it's not really possible to make a regular “through the years“ video, since Freddie first sang it when he was very close to the end of his life (The clip was filmed in May 30th 1991, Freddie died on November 24th that year, so less than 6 month later) so he never performed it live. The song was written originally by Roger and he has performed it since in live shows, which made it possible for me to “combine“ Freddie and him while being hopeful that the rhythm wouldn't be too Incompatible. Well guess what? it was matching (mostly in the chorus) PERFECTLY. The band, while performing live, has kept the rhythm/pace EXACTLY as it was in the original recording with Freddie. As I was saying, Roger wrote this song and it was actually about his life and family, not Freddie's. He was kinda philosophizing about time and how things change, while other things don't. Eventually Freddie was the one to sing it on the album, and fast forward a few months - the song's (objective) meaning as it perceived by the audience changed completely, while all the audience/fans could hear was Freddie singing about HIS life knowing they are about to end. It has actually happened with many Queen songs that were written about some specific *non Aids/Death related* issues, and then after Freddie's death have gotten a new “Freddie's dying meaning“ (even though many of them were written long before he was actually sick). Songs such as: “Who wants to live forever“, “Let me live“, “Love me like there's no tomorrow“, “Made in heaven“, “Keep yourself alive“ and even “Bohemian Rhapsody“ to some extent (“I dont wanna die...“).
