Based on characters from his earlier song of the same name, it’s a tragic rock opera about Jim & Caroline, two drug addicts living a doomed existence in decadent Berlin. The lyrics are graphic, desperate and hopeless, and the instrumentation and melodies reflect the dark subject matter.
