The first champions, Verdy Kawasaki, led by a star-studded core of Kazuyoshi Miura and Bismarck, took flight against the Emperor’s Cup champions, Yokohama Flügels. Nobuhiro Takeda scored the first goal of this match to give Verdy Kawasaki the lead before Valber equalized in the 63rd minute. In the 77th minute, Bismarck finished on Miura’s rebound to give Verdy Kawasaki the 2-1 win and make them the first champions of the Xerox Super Cup.
