Wood Turned To Stone, Ammonite Crystals & Rock Hunting

We are fossil collecting along the Jurassic Coast today, to look for ammonites. I hope you enjoy the geology, palaeontology, petrified wood and more. I’m going fossil hunting along the Jurassic Coast, in early November. Some people have said to me there is nothing left on the beaches to find-where have all the fossils gone ? Well it’s been “fair weather “ fossil hunting recently, there hasn’t been any rough weather around. Now the real Wintery weather is arriving the mudslides will get activated by the rain. The big waves and rough seas will wash fossils out of the mudslides and onto the beaches at low tide! I’d like to find some of the beautiful little pyrite ammonites that wash out along the beach at low tide. Little nuggets of gold delight, saved from the shifting sands. I recommend wearing safety glasses and sturdy rubber gloves when hammering the right little rocks. Remember the cliffs are dangerous and liable to fall suddenly and without warning.
