A large area of Canada was in the grip of a monstrous blizzard. A huge winter storm moved into southern Ontario late Thursday evening, initially bringing rain to most areas. On Friday morning, a sudden freeze swept through the region, the precipitation was replaced by snow and accompanied by strong winds. In Ontario and Quebec, severe frosts have led to power outages in homes where hundreds of thousands of people live. The storm caused massive havoc on the roads and wind damage. A large section of Highway 401 has been closed in southwestern Ontario following reports of multiple accidents. Police say that, fortunately, there were no serious injuries in any of the clashes. Fort Erie was the epicenter of what is called the once-in-a-generation blizzard. With wind gusts up to 120 km / h, frost below minus 20, daytime up to 15 cm of snow. During the day, a storm cut power, trees were downed, and roads across the city were closed.
