Oh, good, a compass. Magnetism and the fields resultant from the presence of magnetic activity are phenomena extensively observed, experimented against and documented. @Grian's rift is some other sort of nonsense, so I guess we'll build on what we understand about magnetism as a foundation for observing, experimenting against, and documenting Grian's Rift. Just kidding, Grian is going to just have us all jump into it at the same time without any preparation or concern for our own well-being. I brought a dozen totems. Carrying a dozen totems isn't a substitute for a plan, but it does increase the odds of surviving shenanigans, and it looks like Grian is setting a course for a sea of shenanigans... or at least a bay of buffoonery... or lake of lack of forethought.
