Vladimir Putin met with one of the most senior commanders of the Wagner mercenary group to discuss the ongoing Ukraine war. Putin discussed with former Wagner commander Andrei Troshev how best to use “volunteer units” in the Ukraine war. The meeting underscored the Kremlin's attempt to show that the state had now gained control over the mercenary group. Russian Deputy Defence Minister Yunus-Bek Yevkurov also took part in the meeting and was sitting closest to Putin.
