️🇮🇱🇸🇦 ️Hezbollah Activity and the IDF’s Readiness for Ground Operations: How the Situation in #Israel has changed by 21 October ️ Judging by the events taking place, the conflict is not abating, and the warring parties continue to prepare for the worst possible outcome. How is Hamas Operating? ▪️ The Palestinian group is gradually moving away from the tactic of firing on targets deep inside Israel in favour of sabotage warfare. Israeli Merkava Mk.4 tanks and Namer APCs concentrated near the Gaza Strip are being heavily targeted with barrage munitions and dropping quadcopters. ▪️ The IDF has nothing to counter this tactic. Some armoured vehicles are being urgently equipped with special canopies, the design of which is similar to the canopies used in the SMO, but the full fledged serial application of EW has not yet been observed. Meanwhile, Hamas rocket attacks are concentrated on cities in central #Israel, Tel Aviv, Petah Tikva, #Jerusalem and #Ashdod. Long range weapons, which we reported on earlier, are not being used How is the IDF Operating? ▪️ After a brief pause following the bombing incident in the car park of the Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, the Israeli air force resumed airstrikes. Their nature and geography suggest that the Israeli Air Force is using pinpoint strikes to clear the way for ground units. The final decision on the ground operation has not yet been made, but formal preparations for it are almost complete. The IDF has concentrated forces on the northern and eastern borders of the Gaza Strip, imposed a water, energy blockade of the Palestinian settlements. The internet has also been cut off. It is noteworthy that after repeated shelling of IDF attack helicopters, Israeli AH-64 Apache practically stopped performing combat sorties, giving way to Hermes 900 drones. ▪️ Although the Israeli army has not yet officially entered the ground phase of the operation in the Gaza Strip, IDF armoured forces have already suffered significant losses. There are reports of 15-20 Merkava Mk.4 tanks destroyed by Hamas units. Another similar number of tanks have been destroyed by Lebanese Hezbollah ATGM operators over the past seven to ten days. At the same time, Israel may have about 350 Merkava Mk.1 tanks (1979-1983 production years), 350 Merkava Mk.2 tanks (1983-1989), 350 Merkava Mk.3 tanks (1990-2002, including 150 from 1990-1995 and 200 from 1995-2000), as well as about 400 Merkava Mk.4 tanks. How is the Conflict Developing? ▪️ The Lebanese Hezbollah is increasingly active on the side of Hamas. The Lebanese are actively using artillery and fire raids on IDF border fortifications and outposts, knocking out surveillance systems and making it difficult to track their own movements. In response, Israel has launched air and artillery strikes into #Lebanon, destroying Hezbollah’s military and infrastructure facilities, regardless of their real value or impact on the fighting. A full-scale Hezbollah invasion, however, depends on Israel keeping its promise to launch a ground operation. ▪️ #Yemen is gradually becoming another important player in this story. The Houthi rebels made a demonstration of using long-range weapons and launched several Quds-3 cruise missiles towards Israel. All the missiles and drones were intercepted by the US destroyer USS Carney in the northern Red Sea, but that appears to be what was intended.
