Ever since the days of Malaspina, Vancouver Island University’s Music program has a long standing tradition of teaching and inspiring the next generation of musicians. Join saxophone instructor, Ben Henriques, to learn about a simple scale; the melodic minor passing-tone scale (AKA the minor bebop scale), and how it can be used to improvise in Jazz, over a minor chord progression. Ben didn’t make any of this up, but learned it from a Barry Harris workshop he attended in 2003. *Please note, at 5:46 Ben says he’s starting on the tonic arpeggio ascending, but in fact he’s beginning on the diminished arpeggio. Please see the bottom pattern of this pdf to help follow along
