This time at camp, I finish the shelter build by finally adding the long awaited canvas tarp roof. I started the day off with collecting eight long poplar tree saplings, and after dragging them back to camp using my leather belt, I measured and cut them down to length with my axe and knife, and tied them in place on the frame making sure to trim their ends flush with the walls using my bucksaw. After the bracing was finished, I unfolded and dragged the waxed canvas tarp onto the shelter and tacked it down with a few galvanized nails that could be rotated if needed, making the tarp removable for the days I am away from camp. The extra bracing should make the shelter capable of holding a heavy snow load, and assuming a bear doesn't decide to climb on it like my past camps, the tarp should hold up well to everything that is thrown at it.
