Heinz Heydrich was born on the 29th of September 1905 in Halle then part of the German Empire. Heinz, together with his siblings, Maria and older brother Reinhard, grew up in an influential family that held social standing and substantial financial means. Both Heinz and his older brother Reinhard were musically gifted with Reinhard becoming an exceptional violinist and Heinz a gifted musician playing the cello. Heinz was close and devoted to his older brother and became his protector during their childhood years. Due to his tall stature, awkward appearance, and incongruous voice that did not match his physical appearance, Reinhard was often bullied and even called a “Jew“. In one such instance Heinz came to his brother’s defense by pulling a knife at a group of local boys who were taunting Reinhard.
