three days of development under our digital microscopes of Macurocampa marthesia eggs - the Mottled Prominent. Lots to fine tune, but I love the first half where the eyes appear, are joined by the mandibles, and eventually the whole head capsule. So many questions from watching this process: What’s with the apparent air bubble? Why are the eyes the first things to visibly develop? Why spin in your egg shell? I’ll have to shoot at a much higher frame rate in the future, this time-lapse was made from taking one photograph every ten minutes. The Caterpillar Lab
