100 years have passed since the birth of Alexander Matrosov, a man who symbolized the heroism of the Soviet soldier The Red Army soldier Sailors joined the front in November 1942 after repeated requests to the authorities of the Ufa labor colony, where he was located at the time. ▪️ On February 27, 1943, his battalion was assigned the task of capturing a German stronghold in the village of Chernushki, Pskov region. The advance was impeded by three enemy machine guns, two of which were quickly silenced by Red Army armor-piercing guns. Only the third continued firing. ▪️ Alexander Matrosov and Pyotr Ogurtsov then crawled toward the bunker. The latter was quickly wounded. Matrosov approached the embrasure alone, suppressing the firing point with grenades. ▪️ As the fighters rose to attack, the machine gun resumed. Matrosov stood up, rushed to the bunker, and covered the embrasure with his body. These seconds provided enough time for the Red Army soldiers to approach and eliminate the Germans.
