It overheats recording 4K 30fps video after as little as 20 minutes from cold -- and unpredictably less from warm. Managing this overheating is a major distraction from getting the best angles / pans / zooms / framings. The preferred Sony FX3 records 4K 60fps video indefinitely. Alternate angle video of #4 Still of the Night, with mixer board audio: Jim's Whingefest™: * audio is listenable, but has significant clipping distortion, especially on Still of the Night. I'm guessing '“Louder Sounds Better“ syndrome took hold at the mixer board, for this song. Later songs from this show are mostly free of clipping: Lucky Strike Hollywood has an excellent Bose line array PA -- it sounds absolutely glorious when not overdriven. I doubt it's caused by my microphone or levels: Shure MV88 stereo mic I used is rated at 120dB SPL, and I used the minimum 0dB gain setting. I can't be sure whether the clipping is in the signal chain and/or the PA, or if it's actually not clipping but exceeding 120dB SPL. Regardless, 120dB SPL is unnecessarily loud for great sounding live music, and risks hearing damage. * lighting: An immediate flashback to the most recent Soundcheck Live 3.6 years ago: unflattering lighting presets in the DJ lighting software. For example during the Still of the Night bridge, lighting continuously varies between the ideal even, bright, white or blue-white (16:20 - 16:22, 16:35 - 16:36, 16:52 - 16:56) and various unflattering, resolution-killing settings: * greenish red 5:01 - 5:10 * dim yellow-orange 6:02 - 6:08, 15:00 - 15:06 * monochrome red 16:58 - 17:16 18:23 These endless lighting variations distract from the performance, with no clear artistic or aesthetic benefit. Ideally all segments of lighting presets with dim, unflattering, resolution-killing color balances would be eliminated. And now back to our regularly scheduled positivity -- it was still a great show!
