Teresópolis is located in the Serra Fluminense, in the interior of the State of Rio de Janeiro. It is 94 km north of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The name of the city derives from the homage to Empress Teresa Cristina de Bourbon-Duas Sicílias, wife of D. Pedro II. Hence the name Teresópolis, “Cidade da Teresa“.
