This circular movement of the arms with a belt creates more circulation in the upper back. It also loosens the shoulders and releases tightness of muscles, (particularly the trapezius muscle) around the shoulder blades. When doing this movement, feel the lift of the ribs from the pelvis as you bring the arms overhead and when you draw the arms behind drop the shoulder blades down the back to release the shoulders from the ears. Also, you can focus on one shoulder at a time and repeat more often if there is a tighter side. For a right thoracic scoliosis, you would want to repeat more of the on the right side and focus on drawing the right shoulder blade down and the tip or bottom of the shoulder blade more onto the back to reduce the rotation of the back posteriorly. This will bring more symmetry and alignment to the body.
