In today's episode, I'm sharing how to make the agar media for growing orchid seeds. I'll share my process on how to create the nutrient solution for sowing orchid seeds. This is the germination media used in aseptic orchid seed sowing. It's the first step of several to grow orchids from seed. There are many ways to do this and many variations as is what I do and what works for me. I'll also talk about the reasoning behind this procedure and why I do what I do. I'm using Phytotech P723 Orchid Sowing Media for epiphytic orchids. Terrestrial orchids require a different recipe for agar media. For sterilization, I steamed the solution for 40 minutes. If you were to autoclave it or use a pressure cooker (121C at 15psi) with the same volume (50ml), then it needs about 15-20 minutes.
