Emilie (9 years old) plays a 3-part soprano saxophone arrangement of Pachelbel's famous Canon in D. Her dad made it for her. Did you know that a D on a soprano saxophone sounds like a C on a piano? To make this video, we set up three chairs in a row against a gray wall. You can see Emilie thought the chairs needed a few splashes of paint when she was younger! Emilie played each of the three parts, one after the other. She changed clothes quickly between recordings! We used an iPhone 14 to film her, and we couldn't touch it during filming, or the videos wouldn't line up perfectly. Emilie wore headphones to hear her dad's piano recording, so she could play along and make all three saxophone parts fit together. Emilie is reading from sheet music placed on a music stand under just the iPhone’s camera lens. We enlarged it so she could see it comfortably from a distance. Here's a collection of interesting facts about Johann Pachelbel. 1. Musical Hide and Seek: Pachelbel loved to hide musical themes in his pieces, like a little treasure hunt inside the music. Sometimes he'd even flip a melody upside down or play it backward! 2. Super Student: When Pachelbel was a kid, he was so talented that his regular school teachers couldn't teach him anything new about music. He had to get special lessons from super fancy music professors! 3. Job Hopper: Pachelbel moved around a LOT. He worked as an organist, which is someone who plays those giant church organs, in lots of different cities. It was like a musical adventure! 4. Famous, then Forgotten, then Famous Again: While Pachelbel was really popular when he was alive, people kind of forgot about him for a long time. But then, in the 1900s, his music became famous again! 5. Super Popular Tune: Even if kids don't know his name, there's a good chance they’ve heard Pachelbel's most famous piece, called Canon in D. It's played at weddings and even in some pop songs! Bonus: • Pachelbel was friends with the dad of another super famous composer, Johann Sebastian Bach! --- “Treasure Hunt“ by Emilie (4 years old) is now available for purchase from Amazon! --- Find sheet music, piano tutorials, and other things I love on my personal website: Streaming Platforms: - Spotify: - Apple Music: - Amazon Music: If you’ve enjoyed this video and would like to show your support, consider becoming a member on my Patreon page.
