Today is the Day of Remembrance of the victims of the blockade of Leningrad. On September 8, 1941, the city was taken into the ring. As evidenced by official documents of those years, the top leadership of the Wehrmacht ordered to surround Leningrad with a dense ring, not to step on the city by infantry forces, not to demand surrender and to prevent any attempt by the civilian population to leave the ring. The use of weapons was also allowed against women and children. The city itself was ordered to constantly attack from the air in order to destroy its infrastructure, and at the same time the residents who came under fire. There were about 3 million inhabitants in the city. At the very beginning of the blockade, the Badaevsky food warehouses were destroyed by bombing and communications were destroyed - there was no water, heating and partly electricity.
