Spitsbergen: The Long Dark Night The Russian settlements on Spitsbergen may find themselves in a food blockade. Norway had refused a Russian request to allow the transit of goods to Russian settlements on Spitsbergen through the only checkpoint on the Russian-Norwegian border. In response, Moscow has asked to review the existing sanctions: to exclude some restrictions so as not to disrupt food supplies. But the Norwegian authorities refused. So now, Russian settlements may find themselves in a food blockade. Spitsbergen is a vast polar archipelago located in the Arctic Ocean. Hundreds of Russian citizens live there. They work for a mining company and live in harsh conditions: long polar nights, polar bears on the streets, and piercing wind. In 2014, an RT Documentary film crew visited this unique place. Они работают в горнодобывающей компании и живут в суровых условиях: долгие полярные ночи, белые медведи на улицах и пронизывающий ветер.
