US-Soviet/Russian Relations in the Times of Crises: Lessons Learned from the Esalen 1.5 Diplomacy

27 сентября 2023 г. в рамках образовательного проекта «Научные среды» состоялся англоязычный экспертный семинар ПИР-Центра на тему «US-Soviet/Russian Relations in the Times of Crises: Lessons Learned from the Esalen Track 1.5 Diplomacy». Мероприятие прошло по мотивам одноименного доклада, подготовленного консультантом ПИР-Центра Осеаной Ван Гелуве и посвященного деятельности Института Эсален по поддержанию отношений между Советским Союзом (впоследствии Российской Федерацией) и Соединенными Штатами посредством двусторонних переговоров по линии дипломатии «второй» и «полуторной» дорожек. В рамках семинара Осеана Ван Гелуве представила основные выводы касаемо деятельности Института Эсален и поделилась своим пониманием уроков, которые могут быть извлечены из истории его работы по поддержанию российско-американского взаимодействия. Открывая мероприятие, с приветственным словом выступил директор и основатель ПИР-Центра, профессор МГИМО МИД России, научный руководитель магистерской программы двойного диплома «Глобальная безопасность, ядерная политика и нераспространение ОМУ» (МГИМО-MIIS-ПИР-Центр) Владимир Орлов. В качестве специального гостя мероприятия с экспертным комментарием выступил Андрей Кортунов, научный руководитель Российского совета по международным делам (РСМД), член Экспертного совета ПИР-Центра. ------------------------- On September 27, 2023, PIR Center conducted an expert seminar in English on the “US-Soviet/Russian Relations in the Times of Crises: Lessons Learned from the Esalen Track 1.5 Diplomacy”. The event occurred in frames of the PIR Center “Midweek Brainstorming Session” educational project. The seminar took place based on the eponymous analitical report Océane Van Geluwe prepared on the Esalen Institute’s work to maintain relations between the Soviet Union (later the Russian Federation) and the United States through bilateral negotiations via Track 2 and Track 1.5 Diplomacy. In frames of the seminar, Océane Van Geluwe presented the main conclusions on the work of the Esalen Institute and shared her understanding of the lessons learned from the history of the Institute’s contribution to maintaining the relations between Russia and the US. While opening the event, Dr. Vladimir Orlov, Founding Director of PIR Center, MGIMO University Professor, Academic Advisor of the International Dual Degree M.A. Program “Global Security, Nuclear Policy and WMD Nonproliferation“ (MGIMO-MIIS-PIR Center), delivered a welcoming speech.
