In 1386, gathering a multi-ethnic army, Prince Lazar of Serbia defeated the local Ottoman commander Lala Sahin Pasha at Pločnik. Achieving several minor victories, more Wallachians, Bulgarians, Albanians and Hungarians joined the ranks of Lazar’s army to repel the Ottoman yoke.
