Nestled on the edge of the Cotswolds, just a 10-minute drive from Swindon, Stanton Fitzwarren is a charming village with a population of around 200. Walk with me in the early morning through this quaint locale which boasts a rich history spanning over 2000 years. The Church of England parish church of Saint Leonard, a Grade I listed building, traces its origins back to the Norman era. Its enduring presence is a testament to the village's long-standing heritage. Stanton House, constructed in 1935 in the traditional Cotswold style for a New York businessman, symbolises 20th-century elegance. Nearby, a 19th-century cottage repurposed as a lodge adds to the historical landscape. Throughout the centuries, the villagers of Stanton Fitzwarren have faced numerous challenges, including plagues, wars, and famines.
