On June 29, 1925 Santa Barbara was devastated by a powerful earthquake. What was the city like before? What did it feel like during the quake and how did Santa Barbara rebuild itself? Using original images supplied by the Santa Barbara Central Library, The Santa Barbara Historic Museum and other sources, Jonathan PJ Smith of The Environment Makers, tells the story entirely through photographs and a few special effects. Much of the downtown area was damaged or destroyed. The corner of the San Marcos building collapsed and two stories were eventually removed. The courthouse was damaged beyond repair and, thanks to Pearl Chase, was rebuilt in Spanish Colonial style to become one of the most beautiful buildings in America.
