Vortex rings interact with a thin flexible piezoelectric beam

A flexible mylar beam is hit by a vortex ring in air. The beam is coated with a thin piezoelectric (PVDF) layer and furnished with two couples of strain gages. A 6DoF balance is used for measuring forces and moments on the beam. The vortex ring is generated using a “vortex cannon“. Piezoelectric voltage, strain signal and the force & moment data are recorded in sync with a high speed camera observing the flow field at 3000 fps. The length of the beam is 100 mm.
