Cesare Pugni was a prolific composer of ballet music, writing many complete scores as well as numerous exercises. This adagio would be a brilliant source of inspiration for many slow, sustained ballet movements. For example, in the Royal Academy of Dance Intermediate curriculum, it is used for an Adage.
