Every year Surf Life Saving IRB Crews from all around New Zealand get together to undertake the 90 Mile Classic Challenge in Ahipara. This grueling challenge consists of 40 teams of three performing a series of challenges in a mega race that lasts for over 2 hours! Each team must perform a series of tasks as they race down the beach including hill climbs, pulling off engines and even carrying the boat! This is all in between battling the fierce waves as they speed along the shore. This race represents the pinnacle of training these IRB crews put themselves through and is the ultimate test of skill, endurance and mental toughness.
