Clashes broke out after demonstrators headed to a police station in the Nea Smyrni neighbourhood, following an uproar over a video on social media showing a police officer beating a young man with a baton, as at least three other officers stood nearby. Officers were on patrol in the district to ensure that locals respected COVID-19 restrictions.
