This is one of my preludes for solo guitar entitled “La Danza del Chanul“. It is inspired by the ancient mythology of the Tzotzil culture of southern Mexico. The “Chanul“ is a type of spirit-animal that cares for you but also punishes you when you misbehave. It is a lively and humanistic piece that tries to capture the essence of this mystical and mischievous figure. It is a live performance at the beautiful Schoenberg hall at UCLA.
