THE ATTEMPTED MURDER OF BOB MARLEY On December 3, 1976, a few days before a planned free concert in Jamaica called the “Smile Jamaica“ concert, Bob Marley and several members of his band, the Wailers, were injured in a shooting at Marley's home in Kingston, Jamaica. While it is often referred to as an attempted murder, the full details and motivations behind the shooting remain somewhat unclear. During the incident, armed men stormed Marley's residence and opened fire, resulting in Marley, his wife Rita Marley, and his manager Don Taylor sustaining injuries. Marley was shot in the arm, while Rita Marley and Don Taylor suffered more severe gunshot wounds. Despite the attack, Marley decided to go ahead with the “Smile Jamaica“ concert, performing with his injuries. There are several theories and speculations regarding the motives behind the shooting.
