Film Date: 1902 Location: Batley Football Ground – West Yorkshire- England Description: Single stick fencing on horseback in the form of a Balaclava Melee Contest* at a Military Tournament held at Batley Football Ground in 1902. *Balaclava Melee Contest. A balaclava melee contest on horseback usually consisted of two teams of six helmeted riders armed with single sticks, which attempted to knock the plumes from their opponent's helmets. The first team to be entirely de-plumed lost the match.
