We also read other accounts of this story from “Vignettes of Coryell County,” By Claude and Mabel Bailey, and “Coryell County, Texas Families 1854-1985,“ published in 1986 by the Coryell County Genealogical Society. This story is about Shelley's men, who were similar to Quantrill's gang - outlaws allied with the confederates in the civil war who often committed depredations on the citizenry.
